Who is in the room.
Architects first, and then everyone the work actually depends on: interior and landscape designers, urban designers, engineers, facade and lighting consultants, project managers, contractors, and the developers who commission it. Photographers and film makers who document it, and the people who teach the next lot. A room of only architects would be half a conversation.
Membership is by application and reviewed, which is the whole point. The value of a room is not its size, it is who is standing in it. Read what membership includes if you want the detail.
Where it meets.
Dubai and the wider UAE first, and Saudi Arabia alongside it, because that is where the building is. There is a page for the architecture community in Dubai and one for the community in Saudi Arabia, and the events programme follows wherever members are, including Cityscape in Riyadh and the Triennial in Sharjah.
How people actually meet.
Over dinner, inside each other’s studios, on site, and at the socials nobody calls networking. The directory carries it on quietly in between, and introductions are made by hand. That is what we mean by architecture networking, and it is a different thing from a conference badge.
The same room holds the interior design community and the wider design community, because in practice those people are already working on the same buildings.
What gets written.
The journal is where the community’s own knowledge gets written down: which firms are doing the work worth knowing about, what is opening in the Gulf this year, and where the profession actually meets.
